How To Load EXS Instruments In Logic Pro Sampler (formerly known as EXS24)
imperfect samples EXS instruments still have a home in modern Logic Pro. The tools have changed names, but the sound is still beautifully human.
Using these instruments in modern Logic Pro
The older video below shows Logic Pro EXS24, which has since become Logic Pro "Sampler". The name has changed but its spirit is alive: EXS instruments can still be loaded into modern Logic, and professional composers, producers / musicians still use imperfect samples libraries worldwide because unlike many piano plugins today, they still sound so musical & inspire you to create!
- Create a new Software Instrument track.
- Open Logic Pro’s Sampler instrument.
- Use Sampler’s settings menu to load the included EXS sampler instrument.
- Play, and edit like with any other Logic Sampler instrument.

A newer Logic Sampler video is planned. In the meantime, enjoy this little piece of EXS24 nostalgia. Older tools aren’t always lesser tools.
Fun fact: Madonna’s Ray of Light album was made using a 13 year old computer from the 1980s. By the album’s 1998 release date, that was an even larger jump in technology than we tend to see today.. and the record still sounds amazing.
Matt (imperfect samples’ creator) still has the old Mac Pro featured in the EXS24 video below, and still uses it for music production. It now stays permanently offline! Although he has newer machines, he sometimes returns to this old setup for inspiration, and has noted that some old Logic workflows are even faster than today’s, with a UI that requires fewer clicks to achieve the same results.
